The Beginings...
FW Developments was founded in 1988 by Aerospace served engineer, Frank Wrathall. He embarked on a Sidecar racing career in the 1970's and 80's seeing multiple successes. He had a best place finish of 6th at the 1980 Isle of Man TT, before a crash at Sarah's Cottage the following year saw focus switch to circuit racing, and ultimately Grand Prix racing. Before retiring at the end of 1986, he had achieved a best of 7th in the 1983 World Championship, along with becoming European Champion in 1985.
As an engineer, and hands on preparer of his own machinery and engines, his skill set became in-demand. This organically led to starting the FW Developments company.
2 Stroke Success
FW Developments grew into 2-Stroke engine tuning specialists and by the mid ninety's were the go-to company for extracting maximum performance, especially from 125 and 250cc machines. Various success followed with numerous TT and British Championship victories. Working with teams and riders all over the world, from club racing to Grand Prix, the company never ceased to grow.
1996 saw a move to a purpose built premises in the Lancashire countryside, where the company is still based to this day. The 5 acre site features two state of the art dyno cells using Dynojet 250i dynamometers along with a host of machinery to keep as much work as possible in-house.
4 Stroke and the future
With the natural shift away from racing 2-Stroke motorcycles, FW Developments also moved with the times. The company welcomed current engine builder, Ian Park in to the fold in 1997.
FW Developments has become the most successful engine tuning business in the UK, with sustained success across a variety of classes and disciplines.
